Writing an eBusiness Blog
Penmanship is one thing, style is another, and content are all extremely important considerations when writing your online Corporate eBusiness Blog.
Content is the most important mix of ingredients in the recipe, especially when writing online.
Search engine algorithms are getting better at deciphering what an article is about but certain keywords can really cause an article to show up in the search results where you might not want. Language, words, phrases, and spam can really place a dent into the body of your article. Many times this can occur without you even realizing it.
Search Revision
I read an excellent first chapter article dealing with revision for a writer titled: "Acts of Revision - A Guide For Writers." There was much to glean from the introduction and first chapter alone. While the guide was dealing with writing in general there were references to hypertext in the contents. I guess I will just have to get the book.
Writing for the Internet can be substantially different than writing on paper. First off, a person reading a story in book form, the reader glosses over how many times a certain keyword is stated in the body text. Algorithms on the other hand look at EVERY WORD and phrase while cataloging the information for search results.
Penmanship is another area to pay particular close attention to details. Sometimes accidentally using the word "then", when you really meant to use "than" in the body text can cause a glitch in a computer algorithm whereas a person reading it quickly on the "World Wide Web" might not even see the difference.
Writing style is another factor to look at from a search engine perspective. Many times a writer wants to write a page in their own technical, engineering, or elitist style without giving any consideration who their target audience is. If you are indeed writing for engineers then including technical and engineering terms should most certainly be included in the page text. On the other hand, reaching the general population in an advertisement or the body of an online article, considerations must be given to not write over the heads of those that you are trying to reach.
There are other marketing factors involved in online eBusiness writing. Punctuation, capitalization, bold text, titles, headings, (font size, color, and style), and advertising graphics are just but a few of the keys that will help unlock the doors in the minds of your readers.
One other important factor not to be overlooked in anything you publish on the internet and that includes a weblog, is the business branding perception in the minds of everyone who comes in contact with published articles by you. Always prefilter Web articles with the following questions before they are published online: What does this do to my corporate brand? Is this good, bad, or neutral for my business brand?

Intranet Blog
Building a company is hard work. Communicating with your employees is a must. Creating an Intranet blog may be just the online business solution.
Communicating with managers and employees can be a difficult task. Consider setting up multiple blogs for various communications at various levels of the company structure. Many times a group discussion is going on with the managerial staff and feedback is a must. One way to do this from a content management solution is use a blog internally with a select group of individuals for creative ideas or hashing out solutions to various problems. By doing it in a blog form there can be a chronological history at the finger-tips. Additionally, a business blog can be set up as private and/or password protected with-in the framework of the Intranet.
For communications with the whole company an Enewsletter blog can be a great way to let employees know what is going on on a day-to-day basis. This would also be an outlet for employees to either post a remark or set it up with no remarks at all.
For those concerned with business security with this form of communications consider the alternatives.
First the most secure form of business communications is probably person to person. But, how realistic is that on a company wide scale. A president of a company could call all the managers in and talk to this group and they in turn could then speak to the rest of the employees. But, this takes time. An E-mail could be generated and sent company wide, although this has the potential to get into the wrong hands even if by accident. Heck, with the viruses going around these days a computer could get infected and send the E-mail out to the whole world wide web.
On the other hand an Intranet Blog can be more secure than email. It has the advantage of being able to be updated immediately and postings can be edited when necessary. Plus for off-site employee communications a VPN or virtual private network tunnel could be created which would securely link an online browser to the internal server and no one else on the INTERNET would be able to view.
Division managers could create their own url department blogs as a means of communicating with those that report to them. Maybe a list of the hot jobs for the day needs to be posted or a to do list, then use the comment area to have the items checked off as they are accomplished.
How about using the blog as both a written form of newsletter communications as well as a verbal means. Many times when something is said once, a person hearing it does not pickup all the information on the first go round. Consider having a podcasting link with the message for the day. The postings could even be linked to a pager system with-in the company so that when the president posted a podcast message it could page a group of individuals to let them know a podcast is waiting. Imagine even having the ability to set the importance of the message so that if the page came in as a 911 code from the president everyone would take notice immediately.
Many companies are using various cyberspace devices from pagers, cell phones, PDA phones, BlackBerry devices, and laptop computers for communiqués. A Blog could be incorporated into this mix and with the abilities of XML programming have it send out a headline whenever there is a posting or new comment.
So, consider not only the business aspect of Web blogging communications but the cool publishing value and making the job site a neat place to work. It is easy, check it out yourself: blogger.com Your employees will love it.
Here is an additional article (very in-depth and detailed information) about someone building an Intranet blog for a corporation using Wordpress and a dedicated internal server with the following software applications: Apache 2.0.53, PHP 4.3.10, MySQL Essential 4.4.40a, MySQL Administrator 1.0.19, WordPress 1.5. B2B vs B2C Blogs
In the Business-to-business or Business-to-consumer world sharing information with customers can add a personal touch that your customers will like.
Many times companies have a list of engineering contacts in their database of contacts that would appreciate knowing about some of the latest technical issues going on in their industry. Build a blog to keep them informed. Use it for highlighting new product releases by your company.
If your company mainly deals with consumers, consider sharing information about your organization or the new products or services that are available. Think of it as a great sales and marketing tool.
Many times having a personal message from management or postings from the president or CEO of your company can provide an inside look and really allow to have your brand shine in the eyes of your customers.
One of the features that really is at the heart and soul of blogs is their natural ability to be a living and breathing website. Many times the main company website just sits over there with the same old information versus a Blog that breathes and brings a breath of fresh air. Some websites can be difficult to update or require full time IT staffing to make changes vs a blog that really is simple to add a new posting and manage for even the CEO of a company.
So consider putting a Weblog together, your customers will like it.

Customize Your Blog For Your Business
Changing the styles and colors are some of the simple things that can be done to set your weblog apart. Sometimes adding a graphic into the mix can do just the right marketing trick.
If you do not know html, do not worry. Experiment with the layouts and design templates. If you make a mistake just start over with a hybrid or new template. HTML is not that difficult to learn and there are helpful tutorials online. Most things are intuitive in the layout design and as you learn new things go in and try it.
Use the columns on the left or right to include links to relevant information or other items that are of interest to you or your business. As time goes on, include some interesting story links that may have been in earlier postings but would like to highlight for your readers.
Upload pictures for your business. Show the world what it is that you do.
Include an Email or contact page link.
As your blog continues to grow and readership expands consider maximizing ROI by providing relevant content ads that can be placed automatically in your site and "get paid a small slice" of every click from your site. see: Google AdSense advertising program
