The Matrix films showed another world right under our noses. Well, the Internet is another Matrix right under our noses and is continually evolving into a life of its own.
The original movies brought into the mix a lot of philosophical questions. The Internet on the other hand brings everything into the mix. Everything and anything can be found online. This is the only place where someone can set up an eCommerce Merchant Storefront account in a few minutes and start a B2C website with PPC Pay-Per-Click online advertising in no time flat. Although, to be successful in the long-run, solid online marketing and advertising principles such as ethics, truth in advertising, and certainly a good product are the variables to consider for anyone venturing into this business area online.
The Internet is much more difficult to sum up because of the continual changes we see going on today. Apple Computer in many aspects has been on the forefront of the changes taking place. They created a product many years ago that really started the whole Windows environment. The company made easy to use computers, in which a small segment of the population accepted them with open arms. Apple and their easy-to-use computer operating system was the driving force behind the Microsoft Windows environment. But, that was only the beginning. Once the Internet became a place to be able to visit far away locations, obtain information, and a host of other eAdventures; it became the eHighway for virtual travel, eMessaging, teleconferencing, and getting your daily updates of news and sports. Then as more and more websites came on board there was a need for being able to see a type of B2B, B2C, and C2C road map and navigate using various search engines that started to catalog all the websites. With web browser improvements and Open Source programs it became clear that the Internet was like nothing we have ever seen before.
Along came Peer-to-Peer, P2P file sharing, and the music studios ignored the Internet for the longest time, even to the point when the original P2P file sharing company, Napster, approached the music industry with a business model for revenue sharing before P2P file sharing became so popular. The music studios thought that round plastic disks was the media of choice and ignored Napster, at least for a little while. Now the MP3 tide has turned. Apple, with their cool technology iPods and iTunes online MP3 music store, became the largest seller of online music. The iPods are being embraced by the coolness factor with the younger generation. But, with the iPod's simplicity of use, even the older generation is walking to a tune or podcast newscast on their own iPods. It is not uncommon to see older Americans out for a walk with their white earphones on and a smile on their face. This is all possible because of the continual technology improvements and the ever expanding role that the Internet is playing in our lives.
Online Video
While the record studios ignored the Net, much could be said of the video industry. The same technology that made it possible to share music, also is the driving force for Webcasts and other forms of online video TV which are increasingly becoming more and more common. New broadcasts are being published online daily. Creativity is one of the key features of what can be done on the Web. People are not limited to any type of stereotypical form of advertising or marketing online. While the typical television media outlets are very formal with their suits and ties as anchors, the web is quite the opposite, with technology and individual creativity for a refreshing change. Maybe that is why more people are flocking to the web daily.
